Sir,
RECEIVED
POFEB 1928
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG. 16th January, 1928.
OL! DAVE LOE!
I
the honour to inform you that the
Auditor has called in question the view adopted by this
Government as to the leave to which certain officers on three-
year agreements and in particular certain Nursing Sisters are
entitled. Some of these officers, e.g. Nursing Sisters,
receive on appointment a typewritten letter from your
department. Others, such as Engineers, receive a printed
agreement through the Crown Agents.

As stated in paragraph 4 of my despatch No.291
no2 of 16th June, 1927, the leave of officers serving this
Covernment under agreement is governed by a special General Order, a further copy of which is enclosed herewith for convenience of reference. And in my despatch No.325 of 13th July, 1927, I asked that the position might be made clear to candidates for service under this Government, which request was carried into effect by the addenda to Print Eastern No.121 transmitted in your despatch No.316 of 14th October, 1927.
On the other hand the letter of appointment
addressed by the Colonial Office to Nursing Sisters contained,
and in the most recent cases still contains, the statement:-
